you are my sunshine

Many of you may recognize this family from a previous post of Vanessa and Jacob hanging out in their office, something that happens quite often since V is my website guru. I have had the opportunity to collaborate with her several times before but not like this one shoot. This was their first official family photo shoot since Jacob was born. A long awaited and anticipated event that Vanessa was very much looking forward to… not only to have photographs with Jacob but with her husband as well because they don’t have pictures together either. Or rather said, professional photos together. Disney and iPhone pictures are discounted here… although I am a firm believer in ‘capture the moment however you can whenever you can’. Planning a photo shoot of this importance is quite exciting. Just like all my sessions, I wanted to make sure the location and the “feel” of the session was fitting for them and not just one of my ideas. We throughly went over the details of what it would be like, just so that her husband, Osmel would go along with my photo shoot style and started our session. Jacob of course being my little best bud behaved 110% during our afternoon together and I am like a proud mom looking at his photographs with the biggest smile on my face.

Vanessa, surprise and good morning. 🙂 You know how busy of a week this is for me and I wanted to start it off with a good punch… bam! I hope these are the pictures you’ve been longing to have and a great representation of your family. I so thoroughly enjoyed hanging out with you all and love what it is that little camera of mine was able to capture. You and Osmel and of course… little Jacob. Who isn’t so little anymore but I know that in your eyes he will forever be your baby. Sweet baby Jacob. Lots of hugs and kisses your way, enjoy!

I had Vanessa talk to me about what it was like for her becoming a mother, and this is what she had to say: “I had a far from perfect pregnancy. In fact I was hospitalized at least once a month because my body was rejecting the baby. I remember the day I was able to hold my son Jacob for the very first time. It was a few days after my surgeries and they had called from the NICU and said they had just taken off his tubes.  I’ll forever have that moment engraved in my heart because it was the moment I feel I truly connected with him.  His hair was combed to the side, had that distinct baby smell, and he was just looking at me. Unbeknownst to me my mother started recording our interaction and I’ll forever be grateful she did that because now looking back at that video it is the epitome of what motherhood means to me. I was caressing his face and started singing “You are my Sunshine”. That sweet lullaby encompasses exactly what motherhood journey means to me. This journey is like an emotional rollercoaster. There are many ups, downs, turns, and loops but when it is all said and done it is the most thrilling and rewarding experience ever. James 1:17 says “Every good gift and every perfect present is from above…” and I’m forever grateful to Jehovah that he blessed me with the opportunity to be Jacob’s mom. ”

Oh you know, we just flew away to Europe for the day. 🙂 I am just getting back in the swing of things today after having a long weekend off.
