8 reasons why you should have a birth photographer

documenting the birth of your baby

I’ve come up with 8 reasons why to hire a birth photographer that ring true to every family.

  1. Document the birth of your child. I think this is the most obvious one. Just as you would hire a wedding photographer to capture the birth of your marriage 😉 the same applies to your baby. This baby will only be born once. And don’t bother telling him/her their sibling’s birth story, it’s not the same.
  2. Free your birth team to focus on you and the baby. Your husband, your mom, a friend or a doula are all there to support you and partake in this special day. That’s their job. Taking pictures is a big responsibility, letting someone else take care of this frees them to focus on what they are truly there for. Especially when it comes to the dads. They are equally as emotionally invested as moms are, they want to experience becoming a father without any distractions.
  3. Birth Photographers are experienced with births. Delivery rooms and low lighting don’t scare us. We want those pictures in focus just as much as you do. We know where to stand to capture you in your most flattering and discreet angles.
  4. Birth Photographers know what to take pictures of. This can sometimes be taken for granted. Taking a picture of everyone with the mom to be and the baby once he/she is born isn’t what I’m talking about. Birth photographers know how to document all the emotions and events without having to pose anyone, in the right angle and at the proper time.
  5. Time makes memory fade. Sadly we do start to forget and what was an elaborate memory of every single detail soon becomes a big picture. That’s when bringing out the album or watching the slideshow helps. It reignites all those heartwarming feelings you shared.
  6. Dad wants to be part of the birth story as well. Mom gets all the credit for carrying the baby to term and then delivering the baby, so what about dad? Dad was there all along. Dad was there holding your hand… (and not taking pictures). Dad was there holding the baby… (not holding the camera). You understand. We want him in the pictures as well.
  7. These will be the coolest pictures pictures to show your baby as they grow. Every child and grown up likes seeing baby pictures of themselves. How wonderful would it be to have pictures that showcase just how much you loved them from the very beginning? It will be as special to them as it is to you.
  8. Capture all those things that you didn’t get to see. That time while you’re laying on the bed and other stuff is happening – that’s the time you wish you had a little spy right? That moment when dad announces to the family members, It’s a boy! Or when your baby is being measured and weighed. Someone else will be there following right along so you don’t miss a thing.
