Whitsundays Islands & The Great Barrier Reef

Driving through the middle of the Australian desert sure has a way of making you feel exhausted. Like you need a vacation from your vacation. The constant tension of whether or not you would run any animal over was no fun. Seeing just how hot is is outside because just like in the movies its almost like heat waves… makes me thirsty just remembering it all. Needless to say, once we arrived at the amazing Airlie Beach in Queensland we were stoked. Our apartment was absolutely perfect. The kind that made D and I wonder why we ever bothered going anywhere else… we should of just stayed there the entire time! It had a kitchen and living room and separate bedroom with a master bath and jacuzzi tub. Ugh, I fell in love with Australia because of the Whitsundays. These islands were altogether a dream. We took day-cruises each morning to explore all the beaches. This was the view from our balcony. I’d get up most mornings just to see the sun rise over the beach, and then snuggle back with D in bed for another hour or so.

First day there we took a cruise to Hamilton Island. Didn’t really get in the beach that day, just walked around and explored. Had ourselves a lovely lunch ( not ham and cheese ) and awaited our next stop to Whitehaven Beach.

That water was so delicious. So clear. D and I were alone in paradise. If you would ask me what was the one place you would visit again for an extended amount of time in Australia, it would be this. We loved this. Everything about that beach town and right down to every small island we visited. Its the one place I think of whenever I want my mind to fully relax.

We loved it so much we took a cruise to the same beach once again. This time I brought along my camera and it was so worth it! You could walk forever and all you’ll see is fishes, rays and baby sharks all without even having to take off your clothes and take a dip. Crystal clear water and blinding white sand, that’s how the Aussies do it around here.

One of the things on both our bucket lists was to scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef. Folks, we did it. Or at least D did very well. I completely sucked at it. Freaked, nervous, scared and jittery. I still jumped. I had my first breath under water. It wasn’t a very exciting one. I took in water and had a major breakdown. The instructor was patient and calm and looked me straight in the eye and I was able to pull it together. The following pictures are of our underwater adventure. We said that when we got back home we’re making it a goal to get certified, little did I know that a short four months later when I actually inquired, I was already pregnant with the boys. We definitely want to do it though, get certified. The ocean is a big thing for both of us. Scuba off of the Great Barrier Reef ✓.

All I ever did underwater was eat D’s bubbles. He was so much better at this than me! After our visit in the Northern East coast it was time to drive down to Sydney to eventually make our way home. Not before stopping along the way… We stopped by here and ended up in a very familiar turf.

This beach we happened to set up in is called Miami Beach… isn’t that a coin-ki-dink? It felt meant to be.

Our last day in Australia I begged D to wake up early enough to catch the sunrise over Cape Byron Lighthouse. It was the perfect ending to our spectacular adventure.

When the man of your dreams takes you to your childhood dream location there is nothing but feeling like it was all a magical dream. What we experienced together those twenty four days was more than just visiting a beautiful country, we were finally just us. Just us two. We wanted to celebrate our marriage with the only two people in it, and we felt we did so with such a bang! I think no other vacation will ever top off Australia and those crazy days together. But that’s the thing, I don’t even want it to. Our honeymoon was everything and more. The start of Mr. & Mrs. Vigoa somewhere in the outback.

Thank you all for reading and viewing along our story. I love writing pieces like this that bring me back to such happy memories. Have an incredible and exciting weekend friends!
