beach date with Daddy

As a Miami girl, the beach is home. I think about going to the beach at least three or four times a week. Do I ever make it there that many times, sadly no. It’s such a shame that I coward myself into thinking that it becomes too difficult of a journey by myself with the boys. That’s why whenever anyone is game for the beach, I’m the first to pack our bags and head out. I LOVE THE BEACH. Every single thing about it. It’s the one place that the hot sun and my fainting spells don’t bother me because I can just lay them out. This past week D and I played hooky and took the day off to bring the boys out to the beach. D works a Monday through Saturday most weeks and hardly ever gets to skid00dle along with us on our many adventures. This was the first time this year we were able to all go as a family and I was super excited. D went the night before to Bass Pro Shops to buy himself a fishing rod and came back home with two miniature ones for the boys. So adorable guys! We knew it would be a slim chance of them grasping the concept of fishing, but thought we would try it anyways.

This was the day I mentioned on my Instagram (it’s @abigailvigoa if you are not following along on our insta story yet) that I decided to take the boys on my own to a walk-in Starbucks. Boy was that a horrible idea. In Key Biscayne, where we were, there aren’t any drive-thru coffee places so naturally I thought I could manage walking in the small place with a kid in each hand and my purse to grab breakfast. No biggie right? That is until I walked in and remembered all of the shelves with stuff. STUFF and FOOD and pretty much EYE-CANDY for toddlers. I’m pretty sure that all the folks in the five person line I was standing in were wondering why I would of thought that was a good idea, and quite frankly I was a bit embarrassed myself. The boys wanted to grab everything their little fingers could reach, which at Starbucks is nearly the whole food section. They reached for the sandwiches, food trays, juice, milk, baby food, chips, water bottles… everything looked appetizing to Will & Matt. And when I had controlled one into keeping his little hands to himself, there was the other putting the juice carton in his mouth. Needless to say, Starbucks 5 – Abby 0.

I left that place with a bagful of things I wasn’t planning on buying and with my arms way too full for an easy walk back to the parking lot. I will definitely NOT recommend that to any twin momma of one-year olds. At some point I’m guessing children learn “the rules” but at this age, it’s all down to a three minute obedience wipe out. They totally forget what they so seem to of understood… them little monsters. How come they don’t forget to chuck things in the toilet and tell me… AGUAAAAA as if their cars really REALLY need a bath daily. Okay folks, mom rant over. I just thought the world needed to know that Starbucks and one year old twins do not go well together. Just incase you were wondering it would be easy peasy.

We met up with my husband who was already at the beach since early that morning fishing with the guys. Hence why the breakfast run I was on my own. Sam was there and I begged him to stay the day so he would capture these sweet little memories for us of our day at the beach. This was our beach day at Bill Baggs State Park, D’s favorite spot.

William seems to forget every time he’s at the beach how much he loves the beach. Every single time. The water scares him and it takes us about fifteen minutes to warm him up. Matthew on the other hand will walk straight on through as if he was the greatest swimmer. Speaking of which, mommas at what age did you enroll your babies in swimming lessons? I can’t help but feel I should of done that this summer. Definitely need to look into that for next season. I’m the kind of parent that will help their child confront their fears instead of giving in to them. So in this case, we always give him about four minutes of support, followed by four minutes of crying it out on his own, and the rest is showing him how NOT scary it is. For William, this totally works. It’s as if he already knows the cycle. The following picture shows you just what it’s like when we first bring them in to the ocean. Talk about kung-fu grip!

I totally forgot to bring my waterproof camera this time so I can’t show you guys all the cute stuff they learned how to do this time at the beach. And before I forget to mention it, the boys are now 21 months! I can’t believe how fast time has flown by lately. They are such big boys now. I will be doing a post soon about all their milestones as of date just so I can compare later down the road… can’t wait to hear them talking sentences. That will be a big one for sure in our house. I hope you all enjoy your lovely Tuesday!
