Friday Introductions

“I wonder who takes all those photos of her with the kids?” I’ve had this question asked one too many times lately and it’s time for a proper introduction to my family! Because indeed not only are they my assistant photographers they are my siblings too. Growing up I always had and affixation for photography and loved using them as my subjects. Hence where the love of photographing children developed. Throughout the years they have accompanied me to so many photo shoots that it’s like they have always been there. Holding a reflector.. carrying my bag around… But now that time has passed (and they have grown up) they have joined forces with me to create ‘the good stuff’. It’s that much more special to have grown not only physically, mentally and professionally with them all. They have been there since the beginning when I didn’t even know how to get a photograph perfectly in focus.

First off, the most familiar face you will see with me during my photo shoots, Sam, my brother. aka. the ‘masculine eye’ every partnership needs. In the photography industry there a lot of husband & wife partnerships and although D humors me every now and then, it’s my brother that shares my visionary mind. I love how I can give him an idea of what I would like and just watch him try to get the “Abby shot”. We work seamlessly well and it just keeps getting better. He calls him self the weird and creative one that can make our clients laugh when no one else can.. but I beg to differ. He’s our personal jester photographer if you will. I push him harder than anyone I know just because I see such potential in his ability and would love for him to grow beyond what any of our expectations are.

Then we have Jael, aka Pooch – which you will hear me make mention to her just like that. I don’t know how the nickname started but it has been around for a very long time. Jael is our little style guru. Hair, make-up, clothes consultant, assistant… when she’s around we have her doing all sorts of stuff. As much as I love having her right beside me, I love it when she steps in front of the lens too. My little inspiration muse. Jael will be soon working on a series with me that I cannot wait to share, it’s a perfect blend of our abilities. Our first shoot on the series will be happening within the next couple of days so stay tuned!

It’s very rare that we will all three work on a project together, but when we do, it feels like the good days of having my kiddos with me. Gets me so happy and excited. These are the folks I love, trust and see our collaboration as just a morning or afternoon hanging out. Work is not work when we’re together. Well there you have it friends, the faces behind the lens. I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! I am off to shoot some exciting engagement pictures on a canoe… praying that we all don’t tip over! 🙂
