South Beach Sunrise Session

She said she didn’t mind waking up really early for a sunrise session at the beach because they’re young. Something that later on he tells me is a big deal for her since she’s not a morning person, but come picture day, she was up at four AM. The first time I worked with this sweet young couple was when I shot their bridals in a crop field. Pictures that I have not soon forgotten because there’s this one picture that makes me want to blow it up and put it in my bedroom, but I don’t because I’m pretty sure my husband would think thats pretty weird having Joel and Yianny staring at us while we go to sleep. They beat me to the beach because they were early, something that never happens since I like to be early myself, and they said hello with a tall white mocha from Starbucks. I’m pretty sure Yianny knew they way into my heart in the morning (or all day) is with coffee. I smiled as we walked to where we would start shooting loving the light and the way the ocean looked the perfect shade of teal. This would be another one of those heart eyed sessions. And then they just came together and I let my little inspired heart soak in the fact that I get to do this time and time again with couples.

As my craft evolves with time and practice I have noticed that my juices flow when I spend more of the time walking around a couple admiring the way they embrace naturally instead of trying to compose the perfect shot by directing them into a pose. Sometimes when they do something that is natural to them, like the way that she naturally picks a spot to nuzzle in waiting for his kiss, is so much better than when I ask them to come together real close. Every couple has their thing and when a photographer takes a couple steps back to allow them to get comfortable they will fall into that perfect pose themselves. No posing required. Yianny and Joel are this kind of couple. If you ask them the one thing I kept saying over and over was closer. Closer. If I were to tell you all about my ideal couples session it would be with a couple that I would have to say, NOT that close. There’s no such thing as being too in love and unafraid to show it to the world. Just think that these are the pictures that you will bring up every anniversary, every time you are showing your kids the beginning and on those tough days that you need to be reminded why you’re together in the first place. It’s all about capturing the love that exists. Not the love we pose for, but the love we feel. So if you happen to be someone about to be photographed or considering it, feel free to ignore your photographer and love on your partner like only you can. Go all out and forget about the people around that may stop to watch. Maybe they’ll feel inspired to do so as well with their partners. Have you ever gone to go watch a chick flick, the tear-jerker kind, and something about that movie stirs your butterflies and it makes you want to run home into your loves arms? I feel that a good engagement or couples session makes you want to do the same.

I’ll stop with the sappy talk and just show you Yianny & Joel’s morning session together. They make me all gooey you see…

I love that for their outfit change we didn’t go back to the sand for more beach pictures. Instead we walked around the area and talked about kids, dogs and cars. Typical first date behavior. That little cafe we stopped in for coffee was absolutely the cutest and I will definitely come back for breakfast since one of the locals said to us it was the best breakfast in South Beach.

Look at me a whole day almost behind on blogging… I was set to feature these this morning but I blame it on the fact that last night after a whole day of chasing snot covered kids I called it quits early and sleep triumphs over ALL. I’m really hoping tomorrow the boys will feel a little better so that I can take them out to this place I want to scout for pictures and snap a couple of shots of them for #twintuesday that will just happen to also be a couple of days late. Hey! you try running a business from home all while taking care of sick kids and stuff and let’s see you be early for anything. I mean, I was early for my client-meet on Monday and I can’t wait to work with that couple soon. So what if we win some and loose some. That’s been our week. How’s yours coming along?
