Crandon Park Beach with the babes

Last week I started a new routine with the boys… a ” get-out-of-the-house-and-out-of-your-pajamas” routine. I don’t know if I happen to be the only stay-at-home mom that lives in her pajamas all day.. but this seriously becoming an issue. Unless we are ‘going out’ grocery shopping, Target run or to a doctor’s appointment, I rarely ever get out of comfy pants and a t-shirt. And to make matters worse, when I do get out all I do is alternate those yoga pants for a pair of jeans. Whatever happened to my non-frumpy mommy clothes? I pay so much attention to making sure the kids look great that I just whip whatever fits on. Does that happen to you? Well this can’t keep happening to me. I’m tired of being frumpy mom.

Before having the kids and going full-time with my photography, I worked in a law firm and I HAD to dress up everyday. I actually miss that one part of it so much. So ladies, I have taken up a routine, just to start slow and make sure it sticks, at least one day of the week I am going to be fun and adventurous, NOT in-her-pajamas mom. This day will be all about exploring Miami with the kids. The beach, a museum, lunch downtown… whatever comes up. It’s about time I get back some version of myself before getting hit with the mommy bug. Mommies don’t have to look like they belong at home all the time. I don’t mind getting juice or strawberry stains in my skirts if that means I actually get to wear them! So take this from me, if that happens to be you as well right now, frumpy mommy, start slow and join me in getting back to being ADVENTURE MOMMY.

I asked my friend Laura if she wanted to join us the other day on a morning dip with the kids at the beach and she agreed. Sam agreed to come along too and help out ( take pictures of us of course ). We all had such a great time. Crandon beach (even though that day there was way too much seaweed) is the perfect calm beach in Miami for kids to play in the shore. None of those South Beach waves to knock them down, or in William’s case, enough to scare him to even getting near. I wish we would of thought of this sooner, Laura and I came back so happy. So what if it requires getting up earlier than usual and packing your beach bags the night before? We live in this amazing city that people pay money to vacation here, why not enjoy it to the fullest with the babies? William and Matthew are going to love the changes around here and I know D will too. Adventure mommy is a happy mommy and we all know how the saying goes, “Happy wife, happy life.”

Don’t leave home with out these things when taking the kiddos to the beach:

  • Sunscreen – Miami sun is quite like no other. Within just a couple of minutes they can already start getting a sunburn on their sensitive baby skin. I love Babyganics sunscreen because its SPF 50 and doesn’t come off even if they play in the water or sand. Plus the spray bottle makes it super easy to apply.
  • Juice/Water – The boys get so thirsty while at the beach. Make sure you have something other than water to cleanse their pallet of the salt water they will probably taste on and on. These Good 2 Grow juices all feature a different character top and my kids are in love with them. We have started a collection at the house of all of their favorite characters.
  • Toys – Shovels and Pails are a classic and the boys love playing with the sand.
  • Sunglasses – not all babies will keep them on, but since the boys see me wear glasses on the regular, I can trick them into being cool like mommy.
  • Swimming suit/trunks – the ones the boys are wearing are from Gymboree, our favorite kid store. These in particular are from last year and are already a bit too small for them but I am in love with the travel print! We do buy the swimming diapers, but for some reason the boys find them easier to take off, so we keep the regular diapers and laugh at their waddle. Horrible parents, I know. 🙂

Have fun at the beach this summer and remember to wear sunscreen!
