Lilly’s Birth Story

The first time I photographed Kristin and Ryan they were pregnant with their second baby, Luke. I instantly fell in love with Sam, their oldest. It was a mixture of his charm along with the fact I missed my own little brother Samuel. He’s the kind of kid that you can’t help but want to look at. I was living in Louisiana back then, many many moons ago. Kristin is big into capturing memories and we saw eye-to-eye with what she wanted each session to be.聽Our relationship and photo journey had continued even though I had moved back to Miami and at times it seemed like I was never going back to Louisiana. But I would. And every time I would,

8 reasons why you should have a birth photographer

documenting the birth of your baby

I’ve come up with 8聽reasons why to hire a birth photographer that ring true to every family.

  1. Document the birth of your child.聽I think this is the most obvious one. Just as you would hire a wedding photographer to capture the birth of your marriage 馃槈 the same applies to your baby. This baby will only be born once. And don’t bother telling him/her their sibling’s birth story, it’s not the same.
  2. Free your birth team to focus on you and the baby.聽Your husband, your mom, a friend or a doula are all there to support you and partake in this special day. That’s their job. Taking pictures is a big responsibility,

Zara’s Birth Story

Baby Zara鈥檚 arrival was very much anticipated long before she was ready to meet us all. She wanted to make the doctors proud by arriving exactly on her due date. I hope that means that she will like to be punctual later on! Kayla鈥檚 experience had me in the verge of tears the whole time I was there with them in the delivery room. Witnessing聽her strength and determination was so inspiring. Leonard鈥檚 tender care for his wife was also one for the books. Everyone was anxiously waiting to meet baby Zara and she decided she was ready to join us once everyone had gone home to sleep. At exactly 1:00 am this little beauty was born. Make sure you notice her adorable dimples!!

Mason’s Birth Story

I’m very excited to post these pictures on the blog. I had a special connection with this family. Whenever I get a call about a birth session I get all giddy and ready to meet the parents. Turns out that when Casey called me to set up a meet I was in the midst of planning a mini vacation trip. So naturally I was nervous to have such an unpredictable session and a vacation during the same time. But I decided to meet with them regardless and see when her聽due date was and the rest of details about when the baby was coming. I knew I would get sucked in, happens every time. Vacation聽plans out the window. For some reason this time was different.

William & Matthew’s Birth Story

There’s so much more to being a birth photographer than聽knowing how to work the camera and the lighting in the room. I don’t feel you don’t have to be a mother to understand, but you do have to have a personal connection with the miracle of life that is happening before you. Birth has to excite you. There has to be something that drives you to the point of wanting to spend hours in a sometimes tense environment with strangers that really wish you were a聽speck on the wall and nothing more. I was a photographer that was intrigued and marveled by the magic of seeing women give birth to their babies way before I ever thought I would get the chance to do so myself.
