Have you ever watched the way parents light up whenever they are talking about their children? Even if they are telling you an embarrassing story of how they nearly lost their mind when their little one plastered poop all over the walls. Love is carried through their words. We can’t help but love and be proud of the little munchkins. Even if it’s for getting into all sorts of trouble. Whenever I have the privilege of working with first time parents they also have a special glow about them. It’s a mixture of happiness with insecurity about all the unknown. The delight in feeling for the first time what it’s like to grow a baby inside of you.
Awaiting baby Ashley
“A mother is she who can take the place of all others but whose place one else can take.”
Becoming a mom, the most life changing experience a woman will ever feel… or at least that’s what it was like for me. Everything changed once I had my own babies. All the notions I thought I knew about parenting, how much I thought I would love my child, the importance and perspective of most things… I hardly recognize the me that I am now compared to five years ago. The change has been so wonderful, something that I have welcomed with open arms and continuously give thanks for. This big change is about to happen to someone in our family and I cannot wait to see her evolve as a mother.
Awaiting baby Lorelei
In the very beginning of this crew it was just two silly folks. Kristin and Ryan. Although thirteen years have passed by and the house has more than doubled, sometimes when I watch them, and it’s still just Kristin and Ryan. Almost four babies later they look the same and I’m pretty sure that another ten years will go by and I will be writing the same thing. The arrival of baby Lorelei fills their home with so much excitement and wonder. Everyone is wondering who Lorelei will look and be like. The baby of the house… what will she add to this bunch of cute kids? One more baby for Ryan to sling around his back. Another girl to play dress up with and drink pretend tea with.
a morning with the girls
I don’t know if there will ever be another muse family for me quite like this one. I am definitely hoping for many many more, but then I go back to them. All the way back to them, and I am home.
I walked in the door and right after my hellos and hugs we were already shooting our session. No warm ups. No small talk in order to get comfortable with one another. No trying to make the little one like me… and that’s because working with Kristin and Lilly is like photographing my sister and niece. I walk in and already can imagine the kind of things she wants and all she really needs me for is to hold the camera and snap away all the little moments that will unfold before me.
Awaiting baby Mila
The day a woman finds out she’s going to be a mom her life forever changes. Whether she’s expecting a daughter or a son, whether that is her first and only or first of many. She forever walks this earth wondering how her babies are. Even when she’s right there along with them. Karyna will soon join the motherhood clan with a baby of her own, precious little Mila. Oh and what a sweet and great mother she will be. Watching this family rejoice in this special time of their lives brought so much warmth to my heart. Even if at first it didn’t seem I was going to be welcomed into the circle since we all know that once boys reach a certain age women photographers are instantly “uninteresting”.
