Twenty months ago, on a regular Monday, I spent my last night in bed with my husband wondering what it would be like to meet the twins. Four hours later my water broke and I was beyond shocked Will & Matt would be here five聽weeks early. Just like me, there are so many of you out there that are mothers to premie babies. We all know what it’s like to get that worried feeling of “was it too soon?” “is she/he going to be alright?” and let me not even get into the stress and helplessnes you feel if your baby happens to be in the NICU for any extended period. When our babies are born we want nothing more than to never be apart from them.
catching up with the Kennedys
Some days are filled with constant carrying. Your arms feel as if they are in an extended work-out that never ends. Life with three kids means something is always happening. School, swimming lessons, homework, diaper changes, grocery shopping, laundry… lots and lots of laundry. Not that I would personally know ( not yet anyways 馃檪 ) but my friend Kristin has been doing this and more for the past three years. She will fool you into thinking its the easiest job in the world with her perfect hair and beautiful children. But now that I am in her shoes with the twins I know there is so much more beauty to being a mother than the cuddles and kisses I snap in photographs.
playtime with the Cheeks
Every time we hang out to take pictures it’s just natural and way too easy. Candice grasps completely the concept I love so much of letting the kids be kids, and in their case its more of let the boys be boys. Ethan is still in that cuddle stage that goes by so quick! I know Candice is feeling the same way I do with the boys, THEY GROW SO FAST! It was just the other day I was shooting Brody’s newborn photographs. Ugh I wish childhood lasted a bit longer. All we want to do is soak in those baby years for as long as we can.
One of the things we did as soon as we got to their home was to take the time to capture some pictures of just mom &
three little munchkins
The morning before I headed back to Miami, while arriving to shoot Kristin’s Motherhood Journey video, Laura had one request, “Do you have time to shoot my kids and I?” Yes, of course I have time. ( My poor mother’s epic outlet shopping trip went out the window and she was once again babysitting for a full day of picture goodness. It must be said though that come Tuesday morning, we shopped until she was absolutely tired and ready to board our plane home. ) 聽Laura herself was visiting from out of town her family that lives in Baton Rouge and we did the shoot at their place. It might as well been her home because grandma’s house welcomes all.
Kennedys at home
2016 has been the comeback year. After taking an extended break while pregnant with my boys I had not scheduled myself a work trip back to where it all started, Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to visit my favorite families. The last time I had visited with them Lily was just six months old. Already then she had them all going goo-goo ga-ga for her. It’s no surprise that now at three she’s the miniature mom of the house. Her brothers are way too sweet and loving to little Miss. Lovely. Just as always, Kristin and I tried to jam pack as many activities as we could into one day without wearing out the kiddos. Leave it to us to schedule an eight hour long photo-shoot.
